St. Johns Boosters support National Small Business Week, April 30th – May 6th, and our local businesses all year long!

More than one-half of Americans own or work for a small business. When you shop locally 70% of every dollar you spend stays in the local economy. In St. Johns we host 350 neighborhood businesses that, together, make our neighborhood a better place to live, shop, and play.

Let’s work together to remind our customers and neighbors of the importance of our small local businesses. Thanks to Venture Portland we have posters enough for every storefront. Drop by The Man’s Shop, 8511 N Lombard, to pick up your St. Johns Celebrates Small poster or email us using the website contact form to bring the poster to you.

You can also pick up a poster at the next Boosters’ General Meeting, Wednesday, April 19th, at 7:15 AM at the John Street Cafe, 8338 N Lombard.

This month the speaker is Joel Metlen, manager of public engagement for the Oregon Retirement Savings Plan. This is a program that begins in July and will allow employers and self-employed people to start a retirement savings program for their company. Come learn the details and network with your business community.

St. Johns Celebrates Small

Every year since 1963 the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.

More than half of all Americans work for a small business, and small businesses create two out of three new jobs in the U.S. each year.

National Small Business Week May 1 – 7

We are right in the middle of 2016’s small business week and taking the opportunity to support and promote the many small business that make St. Johns a great place to live, shop, and play! All week we are sharing photos of our business owners on the St. Johns Boosters Instagram account along with some of the many reasons to shop the small businesses in St. Johns.

Reasons to Shop St. Johns

  • Small businesses donate to local causes two-times more than national chains.
  • 70% of every dollar you spend at a small business stays in the local economy.
  • 97% of Oregon’s employers are small businesses.

In the St. Johns business district there are over 200 small businesses that support our economy, employee our residents, and make our neighborhood a better place to live, shop, and play.
